HTC Announces Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrade

The Taiwanese mobile phone manufacturer has announced via Facebook that its customers will be able to upgrade to the much awaited Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 operating system by the end of March. It listed the HTC Sensation series as the phones which would be able to make the upgrade, with other models coming later in the year.

The impact that Android 4.0 ICS will make on the market has created much speculation, and now that the first publicly ownable handsets are beginning to come through, we will be able to see whether the OS will be as revolutionary as some claim.

LG Give a Helping Hand to Contract Holders with Lost Smartphones

Phones that are sim free are a little thin on the ground for those contract phone owners who either have their phone lost, broken or stolen. Whilst a new smartphone might have made a contract worthwhile, the subsequent loss of the phone can be a blow, in the event of needing to wait until the end of a 24 month contract to receive the latest technology, rather than a cheaper backup phone. However, LG have decided to offer a helping hand to these unlucky souls. They announced last month that they would be offering their latest model, the LG E906 for around the £200 mark, a good £100-£200 cheaper than their HTC and Nokia sim free rivals.

Windows phones have received positive reviews, but little hype from the general public, which suggests that this latest price drop on the sim free price point could be a tactic to attempt to win the public to the Windows phone mentality. Its hardware is not cutting edge, featuring a 1ghz processor and not featuring a front facing camera, but matches its more expensive competition in the Nokia Lumia.

Since the Christmas sales and the subsequent January sales, the Jil Sander has not flown off the shelves. This could be down to the lack of “fashionability” of the windows phones, or the distinctly average reviews the phone got for its lack of innovation or cutting edge features. However, it does still exist as a suitable replacement phone for anyone wishing to replace their contract phone, or purchase as a gift without needing a contract.

Free Wifi Blanket Planned for London 2012

The largest free wifi zone in Europe is currently being planned for London during the 2012 Olympic games, O2 has announced. The mobile phone giant is planning to offer visitors free internet access across large parts of London, through equipment strapped to lamp posts and other street furniture. It is hoped that such a move will enable London to catch up with other large cities where free wifi is widespread, and give visitors to the games the chance to share their experiences all over the globe. It is also hoped that various underground stations will also carry free wifi.

Rupert Murdoch Joins Twitter

Media Baron Rupert Murdoch has joined Twitter in the last week, as his popularity remains at a low following phone hacking revelations that continue to threaten his empire.

Murdoch joined three days ago, and has gained 52,000 followers at the time of writing, despite having only tweeted 17 times.

Murdoch is one of hundreds of high profile businessmen who have used the microblogging site to share personal thoughts with the wider public.

PhonePayPlus Predicts Rise in Mobile Phone Charitable Giving

Amazon hava announced their new version of the Kindle aimed at the ipad market.
Benefits of the new offering are: lower price point, ease of access to your exiting amazon account – a one stop shopping experience.
Downside of the new offering is a measly 7″ screen.
The new Kindle called the “Fire” will be on salke in the US from Novenber. A launch date for the UK has not been setteld.

Orange is the first carrier to give out details of its subsidised ipad contract deals.

Orange will be offering the iPad with WiFi and 3G on a monthly contract. The cost for exisiting customers will be £25 per month and new customers £27 per month for a 24 month contract contract – you will get 1GB of data per month.

Three further mobile phone companies are expected to unveil their offerings soon.
